Alexander Richmond Holiday was born on September 18, 1811 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. He was one of 13 children born to Lewis Waller Holiday Jr. (1776-1860) and Huldah Fontaine Lewis (1781-1863). Alexander(below left) graduated from University Of Virginia at age 25 in 1836. He married Patsy Quarles Poindexter(below right) on September 6, 1837 at age 25 in Spotsylvania, Virginia. They would have five children. In 1849, at age 38, he moved to Henrico County, Virginia, where he would later serve as a member of the US House of Representative's from 1849 until 1853. He served as President of the Virginia Board of Public Works from 1857 to 1861, Throughout his life he was a practicing attorney. He operated Holiday, White and Holiday Law Firm in Richmond from 1870 until his death. Alexander died on January 29, 1877 at the age of 66 in Richmond, Virginia. He was laid to rest at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Spotsylvania County, Virginia.
